Wall-hanging or curtain design for an `Advent Window`

Somewhere in a Swiss forest, suddenly, an owl wakes up and listens to noises of work in the kitchen. – saucepans, plates, `clatter, clatter’; and what is this smell? Some cooking?

Do you know the silence of a cold, snowy winter night when everyone is asleep? Or not everyone perhaps...? Can you hear the soft music and the whispering of the forest animals?

This year I decided to participate in a project where, during the weeks of Advent, from the 1st to the 24th December, people can create a festive window, where everyone is welcome and sometimes offered “Glühwein and snacks”.

I chose to illustrate my wall-hanging with cute forest animals, Christmas decorations against the night sky, and a mouse preparing Christmas pastries. I adjusted the design to fit 2 meters of fabric and uploaded it under my profile on Spoonflower.

In order to get a good quality print on 2 meters of fabric, I worked with Adobe Illustrator. That’s definitely one of the advantages with a vector-based program: you have the freedom to zoom your design up as big as you like without any loss of quality.

Finally, I ordered 2 meters of linen cotton canvas, eco-printed by Spoonflower and sewed the advent wall-hanging.

Originally I had the idea to hang this inside one of our large windows, but then I realized when we tried it outside it’s much clearer and more special. But my learning: think of possible wind that might blow your wall-hanging away!

So on the 5th of December, it was time to hang up my design where it will remain until after Christmas.

Followed by a small apéro for spontaneous visitors and some lovely chats, the cute forest animals are now watching the little mouse preparing more cookies for Christmas eve. What might the mouse be baking?

Happy Holidays!

PS: This design also looks good as a curtain in a children’s room or on a tea towel. You can find it in my Spoonflower shop.
